Way to go 8th grade band! All four judges gave "Superior" ratings for the stage performance as well as the sight reading! YAY!
Here are the upcoming rehearsals and performances for the 8th grade band:
•Wednesday, March 6th from 3-4PM - Full rehearsal
•Thursday March 7th from 5:45PM-6:30PM - Pre-Assessment Concert (concert begins at 6PM, concert attire required)
•Wednesday, March 13th from 3-4PM - Full Rehearsal
•Tuesday, March 19th from 3-5:45PM - State Assessment Concert at Massaponax High School (parents are welcome to attend the 4:30PM performance). Students will be transported by bus to and from MHS. Students should be picked up at FMS at 5:45PM.

The January 12th District Band auditions are postponed. They will now take place on January 19th at the same time (8:30am-10am registration) and place (A.G. Wright Middle School).

The All-County band auditions are on October 22nd. Permission slips will be handed out in class. Parents also have the option to fill out the new electronic permission form online instead of the traditional permission slip. Please complete the electronic form or turn in the permission slip by Friday, October 12th. Students will ride the bus to Thornburg MS and must be picked up by a parent from Thornburg Middle. 8th grade students- marching band "Mini-Camp" is next week! Each high school offers a chance for any interested student to try marching band. NO COMMITMENT REQUIRED! You can come to one day or all days of the mini-camp and see if it is something you might enjoy doing in high school. Mr. Christopher P. Hoovler
Mr. Hoovler is the band director at Freedom Middle School. He has his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from James Madison University and his Master's Degree in Music from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been teaching band in the public schools since 1997. Mr. Hoovler is a member of VMEA, VBODA, and Phi Beta Mu. Mr. Hoovler has earned Virginia Honor Band status as a former high school director, ten VMEA Blue Ribbon awards, and has earned numerous superior ratings in his career.
